Learning a language is one of the most important pursuits of students and global citizens around the world. Developing higher levels of proficiency takes time and a willingness to “play” with the language. It isn’t reasonable to expect that studying a language for four years of high school and/or four years of college can lead to advanced or superior levels of proficiency without intensive study or study abroad. No matter where you are on your journey to learn a second or third language, this website offers strategies and insights into effective language study.
This website is a companion to the workshop series, “How to Study a Foreign Language,” offered by Dr. Bobby Hobgood, Director of the Language Resource Center in the Department of Languages and Culture Studies and Dr. Adriana Medina of the Cato College of Education. The major sections of this site support the individual workshops. Each will be available following the workshops. All workshops are held in the Language Resource Center (COED 434), located in the Department of Languages and Cultures Studies on the fourth floor of the College of Education building. The series schedule appears below. You may also download a flyer of this series: How to Study a Foreign Language.
